all about pumpkin

It’s that time of year again.  Labor Day is behind us.  We’re packing away the pool floats and replacing them with book bags.  You know what that means, right?  Time to bring on ALL THE PUMPKIN!  In fact September, October and November should really just be called WooHoo Pumpkin Month, Bring On All The Pumpkin Month, and Ok, I’ll Take Some Pumpkin Month.  Followed by Dear God No More Pumpkin Month, also known as December.  Starbucks brought back their Pumpkin Spice Latte early this year (which apparently we are shortening to just PSL, this year ::side eye::).  So, we decided it was about time to devote a blog to the mighty pumpkin.

A little bit of the back-story first.  An episode of VH1’s Behind the Music: Pumpkin, if you will.  The pumpkin is thought to be native to North America, which may be how it became such a celebrated squash.  It’s also one of the largest crops in the US.  Approximately 1.5 billion pounds are produced each year.  That’s a lot of PSL’s!  (We seriously cannot get behind that trend!  Plus if you’ve been watching your Facebook newsfeed, and not living under a rock, you’ve probably seen that there’s no actual pumpkin in Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes.  Maybe that’s why they shortened it!)

A long time symbol of harvest time, a Halloween tradition and, a staple on the Thanksgiving dinner table, the pumpkin really come into its own in 2006 when Starbucks released the Pumpkin Spice Latte.  From then on, it has been pumpkin EVERYTHING!!  With or without the hype, pumpkins are high in vitamin A and fiber and low in calories, making them a great addition to many recipes.  Looking for some inspiration?  We’ve put together an All Things Pumpkin board over on Pinterest!  Check it out and tag us in your favorite pins!

Muffins, pancakes, and lattes aren’t the only place to show your pumpkin pride though!  You can even get pumpkin scrubs!  Don’t believe us?  Check out these adorable white and orange pumpkin scrubs!
