Peanuts is a syndicated daily and Sunday comic strip written and
illustrated by Charles M. Schulz, which ran from 10/2/1950, until 2/13/2000, the
day after Schulz passed away. The strip was one of the most popular and
influential in the history of comics, with almost 18,000 strips published in
all, making Peanuts "arguably the longest story ever told by one human
being." At its peak, Peanuts ran in almost three thousand newspapers, with
a readership of 355 million in 75 countries, and translation into 21 languages.
Together with its merchandise, Peanuts earned Schulz more than a billion
dollars. The strip is still reprinted and syndicated in many newspapers. Additionally,
Peanuts achieved a lot of success for its television specials, several of which
won Emmy Awards: including A Charlie Brown Christmas and It's the
Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The holiday specials remain quite popular today
and are currently broadcast on ABC in the United States.
Snoopy first appeared on the Peanuts strip on 10/4/1950, 2 days after the premier
of the strip and was first identified by name on 11/10/1950. Schulz was
originally going to call him "Sniffy" until he discovered that the name
was already used in a different comic. He changed the name to
"Snoopy" after remembering that his late mother had wanted to name a
family dog Snoopy. Cherokee Uniforms introduced Snoopy Scrubs as part of their
Tooniforms Nursing Uniforms line and offers a selection of Peanuts and Snoopy
Scrub Tops and Warm-up Jackets.
