Batik Scrub Tops

Shop Tafford Batik Scrubs.

Tafford offers an incredible selection of batik scrubs, including batik scrub tops, batik scrub pants, batik scrub jackets, and batik scrub caps. Our 100% cotton batik fabrics are hand painted in Bali, Indonesia. Due to the hand crafted nature of the fabric, no two garments are alike, and slight variations in color are to be expected. Our batik print scrubs coordinate perfectly with our Tafford Essentials solids -- just check the description to see what colors match your favorite batik scrub top. Exclusive Tafford Batik Scrubs are unlike any scrubs you will ever purchase, and all our batik scrubs meet our exacting quality requirements.

Batik is an Indonesian-Malay word that describes a wax resist dyeing technique used on fabric -- covering areas of cloth with a dye-resistant substance to prevent them color absorption. The word comes from the Javanese word "amba", meaning &"to write", and the Javanese word for point or dot, "titik." Batik has been art form and a craft for centuries. In Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition, and the world's finest batik cloth is still made there. Contemporary batik artists use a host of techniques including etching, discharge dyeing, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing, wax recipes with different resist values. Batik artists use a host of textiles including silk, cotton, wool, leather, paper or even wood and ceramics.

Much of the popularity of Batik is due to the fact that the batik technique offers many opportunities for artistic freedom as patterns are applied by drawing rather than through weaving. Another factor in its popularity is its durability. The colors in Batik are much more resistant to wear than those of painted or printed fabrics because the cloth is completely submersed in the colorant and the areas not protected by resist will not fade easily.
